Cellulite is a frustration for many adults. These tiny dimples form in the most unwanted places, resulting in a cottage-cheese look that isn’t very photo-friendly. While many lotions and creams promise that they will reduce the appearance of cellulite, most don’t deliver appreciable results.
You can try to prevent cellulite through a healthy diet and exercise, and sometimes that’s enough to stave off its appearance for years or even decades. However, at some point, 90% of people will develop cellulite. Usually, it appears on the buttocks, thighs, or abdomen, but it can also develop on other body parts.
Natural aging is the primary source of your cellulite woes. As you age, your skin becomes thinner. Fat cells push through the tissues and into fibrous bands as the skin thins. Over time, the fibrous bands begin to thicken. The combination of enlarged fat cells and thicker fibrous bands result in the dimpled texture of cellulite.
There are two cellulite treatments we offer: QWO and TempSure-Firm. Both treatments target cellulite and eliminate its appearance. However, they accomplish that in different ways.
QWO is an injectable cellulite treatment that’s FDA-approved to eliminate cellulite on the buttocks. QWO contains collagenase, which works to loosen the fibrous bands that lead to the formation of cellulite. As the fibrous bands loosen, fat cells redistribute in the targeted area, resulting in smoother-looking skin.
Individuals who get QWO cellulite treatment have three sessions, spaced approximately three weeks apart. However, the number of sessions required varies according to the size of the treatment area and the severity of cellulite.
Just about anyone can get QWO cellulite treatments. However, before setting you up for your first QWO appointment, we’ll have a quick consultation with you to discuss your medical history and any medications you are taking. We’ll also examine the treatment areas to make sure that QWO is the right solution for you.
TempSure-Firm uses a different method to treat cellulite. With TempSure-Firm, a radiofrequency device gently heats the skin’s underlying layers, promoting collagen production. As the skin heats up, the fibrous bands that cause cellulite gently release, giving your skin a smoother appearance. Cellulite dimples slowly dissipate.
TempSure-Firm is beneficial for treating cellulite in all body areas, including the face, thighs, arms, buttocks, and abdominal area. The device has the added advantage of treating other common skin concerns as well.
In fact, TempSure-Firm is commonly used to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, and shrink smile lines. Since the device stimulates collagen production, new skin cells form and overtake older, damaged cells. TempSure-Firm can also treat milia and telangiectasia and act as a hair epilator.
Just about anyone can undergo cellulite treatment with TempSure-Firm. It’s appropriate for all skin types and tones.
Before selecting TempSure-Firm as your cellulite treatment, it’s best to schedule a consultation with us to discuss your aesthetic goals. We’ll determine whether TempSure-Firm is suitable for you or if another treatment may be more effective.
The results from both QWO and TempSure-Firm are permanent. However, the natural aging process doesn’t stop; future cellulite can develop in the same or other areas of the body.
To mitigate the development of future cellulite, you should maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Keep in mind that significant weight fluctuations are more likely to result in cellulite growth.
Aside from keeping a healthy lifestyle, there are certain things you can do to prevent cellulite from reappearing.
Hydration can help the appearance of cellulite. Drinking your regular daily allowance of water keeps your skin hydrated and clear. When your body is dehydrated, all skin problems worsen. Fine lines appear out of nowhere, and collagen production comes to a halt.
Dermatologists also recommend dry brushing to minimize cellulite’s appearance. A dry brush has a long wooden handle and contains thick bristles. Before showering, use a dry brush to shed the skin of dead cells and debris. After your shower, use a hydrating body lotion to keep your skin supple and soft.
Finally, body retinol helps with skin cell turnover. While you may associate retinol with facial skin, retinol has its place in body care too. Retinol encourages collagen production, which begins to diminish after the age of 25. With more collagen comes better skin quality, which leaves the body with a more youthful appearance.
Unfortunately, cellulite generally doesn’t go away on its own. The cause of cellulite will remain unless you treat it with in-office procedures. However, you may be able to reduce its appearance with diet and exercise, dry brushing, and retinol.
In many people, cellulite is genetic. If either of your parents had cellulite, you’re more likely to develop it too.
QWO is FDA-approved for treating cellulite that appears on the buttocks. If you have cellulite on other parts of your body, it’s likely not the right solution for you.
TempSure-Firm is effective for treating cellulite in many areas, including the arms and thighs. If you have cellulite in these areas, TempSure-Firm is the more suitable treatment.
A consultation with us will help you decide on the appropriate cellulite treatment for your body.
